Condominium concept popular amongst Mumbai middle class
Mumbai
Nina and her husband are working professionals with two school going children. Her apartment complex recently signed up a Property Manager, who gets the household chores done, including delivering Tiffin boxes to the two children and her by 7.45 am.
Sarita Parki and her husband are retired professionals in their 70s. Cooking and taking care of the cleaning (even with a bai) was becoming too much for Sarita. Today they have the comfort of getting hygienic home cooked meal, a clean home and the clothes washed, dried and ironed and delivered at their door step.
These are not some incidents in a mythical land far away. But a new trend, that is catching on in the middle-class of Mumbai. An extended version of the Condominium concept is getting popular in places like Ghatkopar, Andheri and Ville Parle East. Hiring a Property Manager, who is from a housekeeping services company with cooking and/or catering services, as an add-on, to coordinate with the residents in home maintenance and food on an everyday basis is growing.
“A concept that was previously used primarily by the affluent in India, has now made in-roads into the mid-segment,’’ said Tapan Chatopadyay, Business Development Facilitator, Jack-of-Jobs. “Those who utilize our services are for various reasons unable to sweep, mop, clean or cook. Previously, each house would hire a maid or cook separately. But today with improving lifestyle requirements, residents prefer to sign up with agencies like ours to get quality timely service.’’
The Property Manager (or Coordinator) of an apartment complex, records the various requirements and timings of each home owner, and organizes trained personnel from his company to provide the service as per the request.
“Security and quality service are two big advantages that we provide, as all our personnel are trained and hired only after police verification,’’ states Chatopadyay. “Also, additional services like plumbing, carpentry, electrical repairs, common area maintenance are also provided by us.”
Hence an absent bai or a small carpentry work is no more an issue, as the Property Manager is just a call away.
